Announcement of the「4th Marianne and Margaret Youth Hope-Adding Contest」

 

In order to widely promote the spirit of service of the two nurses Marianne and Margaret, who cared for Hansen's disease patients on Sorokdo with nothing but love and dedication for over 40 years,

and to foster the character development of youth and expand voluntary participation in community service, the「4th Marianne and Margaret Youth Hope-Adding Contest」is hereby announced as follows.

 

1. Contest Period: May 1 (Fri) ~ June 30 (Tue), 2026, by 17:00

2. Contest Categories: University Division, High School Division, Middle School Division

    - University Division: Currently enrolled university/college students and organizations nationwide

    - High School Division: High school students nationwide and youth of equivalent age

    - Middle School Division: Middle school students enrolled in schools located in Goheung County and youth of equivalent age residing in Goheung County

3. Content: Written review of a designated video (including personal volunteer experience)

    - Theme: "The Value of Sharing and Service as Felt Through the Lives of the Two Nurses"

    - Designated Video: Nurses Marianne and Margaret of Sorokdo (46 minutes)

4. Announcement and Award Ceremony:

    Announcement: November / 12 recipients total (University Division: 2, High School Division: 5, Middle School Division: 5)

    Award Ceremony: November 2026 / Kim Yeon-su Hall, Goheung Cultural Center
    Awards:

        - University Division (2 recipients): Minister of the Interior and Safety, Minister of Education

        - High School Division (5 recipients): Jeollanam-do Governor, Jeollanam-do Superintendent of Education, Goheung County Mayor,

Goheung County Council Chairman, Chairman of the Marianne and Margaret Promotion Project Committee

        - Middle School Division (5 recipients): Jeollanam-do Governor, Goheung County Mayor, Goheung County Council Chairman,

Superintendent of Goheung Education Support Office, Chairman of the Marianne and Margaret Promotion Project Committee

    Prize Money: Total 22,500,000 KRW

        - University Division: 5,000,000 KRW each, High School Division: 2,000,000 KRW each, Middle School Division: 500,000 KRW each
