A Letter from Bolivia..7 2019-05-09

Thank you, Lord, for coming!

Standing at the threshold of the year's end, my heart feels busy.

I hear that winter in Korea is cold — how is the health of the Sorokdo family?

Whenever I think of the Sorokdo family, I feel a warmth like coming home to my parents' house.

That someone as lacking as I am has been able to adapt and live in Bolivia is entirely thanks to the power of so many people's prayers.

Bolivia is in the rainy season, so it rains often.

It is nice that the rain makes it a little less hot, but the increase in mosquitoes is quite uncomfortable.

There is no such thing as a 100% satisfying life.

I live by the thought that if you can be 50% satisfied, that is already a happy life.

A friend came from Korea.

We ended up spending a month together.

In life abroad, the presence of a friend is something to be truly grateful for.

I have adapted somewhat to the environment of Santa Cruz, so I eat well enough and mosquito bites settle down quickly for me — but my friend has been struggling with the food and has been bitten so badly by mosquitoes that I feel terribly sorry for her.

Her whole body is swollen from mosquito bites, puffed up like embossed tissue paper.

The beginning is always difficult, but a new experience is always given as a gift.

Yesterday we had the children's prayer group meeting.

I prepared Christmas gifts for the children.

I asked them: on your own birthday, you receive gifts — so why do we receive gifts on Jesus' birthday?

The children had no answer.

I told them that it is because Jesus Himself is a gift to us, and that is why we receive gifts on His birthday.

The children offered their heartfelt Rosary prayers as a gift to Jesus.

Celebrating Christmas together with those who are poor always feels especially meaningful.

Dear Sorokdo family, I hope that in the new year you will laugh more and feel even more of the Lord's peace and love!

Wishing you a blessed Christmas!

I pray that you may be filled with the Lord's blessings in the new year.
