Thank you, Lord, for coming!
Standing at the threshold of the year's end, my heart feels busy. I hear that winter in Korea is cold — how is the health of the Sorokdo family? Whenever I think of the Sorokdo family, I feel a warmth like coming home to my parents' house.
Bolivia is in the rainy season, so it rains often. It is nice that the rain makes it a little less hot, but the increase in mosquitoes is quite uncomfortable. There is no such thing as a 100% satisfying life. I live by the thought that if you can be 50% satisfied, that is already a happy life.
We ended up spending a month together. In life abroad, the presence of a friend is something to be truly grateful for. I have adapted somewhat to the environment of Santa Cruz, so I eat well enough and mosquito bites settle down quickly for me — but my friend has been struggling with the food and has been bitten so badly by mosquitoes that I feel terribly sorry for her. Her whole body is swollen from mosquito bites, puffed up like embossed tissue paper. The beginning is always difficult, but a new experience is always given as a gift.
I prepared Christmas gifts for the children. I asked them: on your own birthday, you receive gifts — so why do we receive gifts on Jesus' birthday? The children had no answer. I told them that it is because Jesus Himself is a gift to us, and that is why we receive gifts on His birthday. The children offered their heartfelt Rosary prayers as a gift to Jesus. Celebrating Christmas together with those who are poor always feels especially meaningful.
I pray that you may be filled with the Lord's blessings in the new year.
