Topic: Overcoming Low Birthrate and Aging Society, Roles and Directions of Local Governments Lecturer: Lee Seung-woo (Director of Policy Planning, Institute for Population and Future Policy)
Our country is experiencing a crisis due to changes in the population structure, and in this process, issues such as low birthrate and aging population lead to a decrease in the working-age population, a slowdown in growth potential, industrial structure, changes in welfare systems for elderly support, and a decrease in the school-age population, which are expected to have a significant impact across the economy and society.
The lecturer argued that realistic responses from both central and local governments are necessary to absorb the social shocks resulting from changes in the population structure.
