At the foundation, Father Kim Yeon-jun, Executive Director Kang In-hye, and Training Center Director Kang In-jeong attended and had a warm conversation with the students.

Additionally, Nokdong High School prepared gifts, making the occasion even more abundant and heartwarming.
Congratulations once again to the Nokdong High School students for adding value to sharing with their wonderful talents.
Award-Winning Works
Artwork by Park Seul-ji
Description:
Margaret Pisarek passed away in 2023 and went to heaven. In "Angel Without Wings," I drew beautiful pure-white wings symbolizing a pure heart, expressing that she has become an angel. Because Sorokdo was the second home of Marianne and Margaret, I depicted a Sorokdo deer carrying Marianne and Margaret on its back to convey a sense of comfort and security. The letter is the one that Marianne and Margaret left behind when they departed from Sorokdo, and it represents their considerate actions toward others and the sincerity held within their hearts.

Description:
The Hands The hands, the most distinctive element in the work, symbolize all those who did not turn away from the isolated island but instead held it up together, sacrificing themselves through responsibility and solidarity. They show the service and sharing of a community. Moreover, it was because there were people who reached out a helping hand that Sorokdo could come to exist as it is today, and this is expressed through the hands that support the island. The intent was to show that, had it not been for these hands, the island could not have taken on its present form.
The Figures The two figures on the island (Sorokdo), gazing at each other and sharing smiles in warm conversation, are Marianne and Margaret. As representative figures of sacrifice and service, the two of them embody the community spirit that is fulfilled through sharing between people, and they reveal the connection with Sorokdo.
The Clover The rings worn on everyone's hands in the picture are made of clover. Rather than drawing attention to itself, the clover grows intertwined with others in a humble, low place, enriching the soil and the surroundings around it; for this reason it was drawn to symbolize the values of sacrifice, service, and sharing for the sake of community. The fact that it is worn on everyone's hands signifies that all are linked and connected to one another, representing the spirit of community.
The Island Next, the shape of the island was rendered in the form of a small (baby) deer, imitating both the iconic symbol and the actual landform of Sorokdo. This expresses the connection with Sorokdo. The deer's antlers were depicted using clover. |
