The 3rd Marianne & Margaret Service Award Ceremony [2023. 10. 27] 2023-11-01

The 'Marianne & Margaret Volunteer Award Ceremony,' which carries on the noble spirit of Marianne and Margaret, has reached its third year. With each passing year, it is developing into a more significant and meaningful volunteer award, and the prize money has doubled compared to previous years. The grand prize in the nursing category was awarded to Lee Soon-ok, former president of the Korean Midwives Association, and the grand prize in the volunteer category was awarded to the 'St. Damian Society' of the Catholic Diocese of Jeju. Additionally, for the first time, the 'Marianne & Margaret Hope Plus Youth Contest' was held, attracting many young participants. Through blind judging, five students from various regions, including Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Jangsu, and Suncheon, were selected and honored with awards. Among the youth awardees was a student who gained attention for composing and dedicating a song called 'Sorokdo Grandma Angel' during elementary school. The awards were presented by former Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik, Father Kim Yeon-jun, Chairman of the Marianne and Margaret Promotion Committee, and Gong Young-min, Mayor of Goheung County. Additionally, Marianne's handwritten signature and congratulatory video were included, and the clothes Marianne wore in the video were gifts from Nokdong Elementary School students, which drew great applause from the audience for the students' commendable gesture. A moment of silence was observed to commemorate Margaret, who passed away on September 29, and a memorial video made by the director of the Sorokdo Marianne and Margaret Sharing Training Center moved many to tears. The 3rd Marianne & Margaret Volunteer Award Ceremony, enriched by the participation of many, concluded with a luncheon and the presentation of commemorative gifts, promising to return next year.
